The 21st annual European Aviation Safety Seminar kicked off on 16-Mar-09 in Nicosia, Cyprus before an audience of 200. Hosted by the Flight Safety Foundation (FSF), the European Regions Airline Association (ERA), and EUROCONTROL, the seminar will work to ensure that attention continues to be focused on aviation safety during a global economic downturn.

HUNGARY :
Malév cabin crew and pilots with the greatest number of flown hours last year staged a special water rescue exercise on 06-Mar-09. After receiving accolades for their outstanding performance and professionalism, the flight attendants and pilots - each of whom has clocked up several hundred flying hours - showed the correct rescue procedure to be followed in the case of an emergency ditching in water. The presentation was staged in the Aquaworld swimming pool.

In Feb-09, the Austrian Airlines Group received a highly regarded confirmation from the International Air Transport Association (IATA): Austrian Airlines and also Tyrolean Airways successfully completed the strictly controlled cyclical IOSA - audit. This demonstrated that the carriers of the Group - Austrian Airlines, Tyrolean Airways - were still committed to adhering to the high globally-accepted international safety standards.

Air Italy has chosen AD Aerospace, an AD Group company, to supply CabinVu-123 to improve safety and security on board its B737 aircraft. CabinVu-123 increases cockpit security by giving the pilots’ a clear view of any activity outside the cockpit door and in the adjacent galleys and therefore greatly improving their situational awareness.

UTair recieved (06-Feb-09) IOSA (International Operational Safety Audit) and International Air Transport Association (IATA) certificates. Delivering the international certificates, the regional representative of IATA in Russia and USSR Dmitri Shamraev underlined the fact that these documents are a peculiar quality mark for the air company.

In 2005 Estonian Air obtained (14-Jan-09) the IOSA (IATA Operational Safety Audit) certificate. The International Air Transport Association (IATA) has decided to extend the IOSA certificate for another two years.

The UK Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) has issued a seasonal appeal for pilots and ground crew to not underestimate the dangers posed to aircraft of ice and ground frost this winter. As temperatures continue to drop, commercial aircrew, maintenance staff and general aviation pilots should take the job of de-icing aircraft very seriously.
