Ryanair, the World’s favourite airline, today (29th July) confirmed that it had submitted complaints to the EU Commission regarding the Irish Government’s tourist tax of €10 (€2 on shorter routes) which unfairly differentiates between Irish domestic routes and EU routes. Ryanair has made the following complaints on the Irish Government’s tourist tax:

Ryanair, the World’s favourite airline, today (27-Jul) celebrated a six fold increase in its Q1 profits (from €21m to €136m) by releasing 1 million seats at an all inclusive price of €1 for travel in September and October. These €1 fares are available on over 500 of Ryanair’s European routes but must be booked on www.ryanair.com before midnight (24:00hrs) Thursday (30-Jul).

Ryanair, the World’s favourite airline, today (21st July) announced a 40% capacity cutback in its Stansted Winter Schedule starting in October ’09. Ryanair operated 40 aircraft from Stansted this summer but will reduce this
to 24 aircraft (a 40% reduction) this winter with a 30% reduction in the number of weekly flights and a loss of 2.5m passengers at Stansted between October and March 2010.

Ryanair, Europe’s largest low fares airline, 28-Apr 09 announced that it will allow “price comparison only” websites to access its timetable and pricing information in order to compare Ryanair’s guaranteed lowest fares with those of high fares, fuel surcharging, competitor airlines.

Ryanair urged passengers to use their vote in order to influence whether or not the airline should introduce a ‘fat tax’ for overweight passengers. Ryanair has received almost 100,000 votes to date and most passengers are calling for a charge for overweight passengers, while many are urging the re-introduction of smoking onboard.

Ryanair announced (08-Apr-09) that it received over 12,000 suggestions from passengers as part of the low fares airline’s competition to suggest a discretionary revenue charge which would help lower Ryanair’s costs and reduce its guaranteed lowest fares even further.

Ryanair confirmed (05-Feb-09) that the Government’s new EUR10 travel tax is already having a damaging impact on forward bookings from 30-Mar next. This EUR10 tourist tax, which has already caused traffic declines in the UK and Holland when previously introduced, is devastating forward bookings in Shannon, because in many cases it exceeds the air fare paid by many passengers on Ryanair’s low fares routes from Shannon.

Ryanair announced (16-Jan-09) that it had recorded its best ever week of sales with over 1.5 million seats sold between 09-Jan to 15-Jan-09. Ryanair’s record sales announcement comes just one day after it announced five new aircraft at its Alicante, Bristol and Edinburgh bases, which will serve 23 new routes across its European network this summer including new Knock and Derry routes to/from Alicante.

Aer Lingus Group plc (Aer Lingus) has been notified of an offer by Ryanair Holdings plc (Ryanair) for the issued share capital of Aer Lingus Group plc not already owned by Ryanair. Aer Lingus notes the offer and will make a statement in due course. In the meantime, Aer Lingus shareholders are strongly urged to take no action.
