FINLAND : Finnair will commence scheduled flights to Venice, Italy on 03-Apr-2009. The flights will operate three times a week on Mondays, Fridays and Sundays during the summer season until 05-Oct-2009. Airbus A320 and Embraer aircraft will be used on the route.

In summer, Czech Airlines will enhance its offering of seasonal flights to Toronto, Canada. Compared to last year, the number of flights in the main summer season will increase from three to four weekly. Also the period for which Czech Airlines will provide flights to Canada will be longer.

GERMANY : Air Berlin announced (16-Feb-09) plans to operate a new route from Berlin-Tegel to Kracow in Summer 2009. In addition to the route network, Air Berlin will also launch non-stop flights from Berlin-Tegel to Oslo, the capital of Norway. This is the first time that Air Berlin will be serving the Norwegian market.

GERMANY : Lufthansa announced (16-Feb-09) plans to extend its route network in Poland by adding Rzeszw to its Summer timetable 2009. From 27-Apr-09, the Lufthansa CityLine regional airline subsidiary will begin operating five flights weekly on the Frankfurt-Rzeszw route with a Bombardier CRJ-700.

GERMANY : Air Berlin announced (13-Feb-09) plans to fly non-stop to Hanover from Stockholm-Arlanda from 20-Apr-09. There will be four flights each way per week using its Airbus 319 aircraft seating 144 passengers.

Scandinavian Airlines announced (12-Feb-09) plans to suspend the Beijing-Stockholm service from 01-May-09 due to insufficient demand. SAS had launched the service in 2007. SAS said in a statement, Removing capacity from the long-haul fleet is vital to reduce the risk and financial exposure of SAS operations in this downturn. The airline's Beijing-Copenhagen daily service will, however, continue operations.”

IRELAND : Ryanair announced (12-Dec-09) the introduction of a new route from Bristol to Belfast City. The new service will commence on 30-Mar-09 and operate daily. This follows Ryanair's recent announcement of an additional aircraft and 12 new routes from Bristol International.

CZECH REPUBLICH : SmartWings announced (02-Feb-09) to launch a new route from Prague to Croatia. Starting 13-Jun-09 SmartWings will fly to Split on a weekly basis. The route will be operated with a Boeing 737 aircraft.

FINLAND : Blue1 launched two new routes to Northern Finland, to Ivalo on 10-Feb-09 and to Kuusamo on 11-Feb-09. Both routes will be operated three times a week until 19-Apr-09. In addition to Blue1 direct flights from Helsinki-Vantaa to Ivalo and Kuusamo are operated by Finnair.

Eastern Airways is introducing a flight from Leeds Bradford International Airport to Southampton in mid-afternoon year-round flight. The airline will start the 2.20pm Leeds Bradford departure from 16-Feb-09, arriving in Southampton at 3.30pm.

IRELAND : Ryanair announced (04-Feb-09) the addition of a further destination to its route network from Liverpool John Lennon (JLA) with flights to Ibiza to start at the end of March. Flights will operate three times per week departing on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, starting on 30-Mar-09.

POLAND : In the coming Summer season LOT Polish Airlines will launch a new direct service between Cracow and Athens. The flights will be operated by the Embraer 170 aircraft twice a week, departing from Cracow on Thursdays and Sundays and returning on Fridays and Monday mornings.

UNITED KINGDOM : easyJet announced (04-Feb-09) that it is opening an additional 13 new routes across Europe, for Summer 2009 bringing the total number of routes to 416. Five of the new routes will operate from UK airports. Fares for the new routes will start from just GBP29.99 including tax.

NORWAY : Norwegian Air Shuttle announced plans to launch services from London Gatwick Airport to Oslo, Copenhagen, Bergen, Stravanger, Aalborg and Tromsø. Norwegian Air Shuttle, which already operates a programme from London Gatwick Airport, is set to start operating a three-times daily service to Oslo, twice-daily to Copenhagen and daily services to Bergen, Stavanger and Aalborg.

Spanair released (02-Feb-09) its new Flight Schedule for the Summer season, starting 29-Mar-09 and running to 24-Oct-09. In the summer season, Spanair will operate a total of 756 domestic weekly flights to/from Barcelona and 740 international flights; it will operate 660 international flights and 550 domestic flights to/from Madrid.

SPAIN : In July, Iberia will fly to Zagreb, operating return flights on Saturdays and Sundays throughout the Summer. The carrier expects to carry some 5,000 passengers on the route. Iberia will also offer flights between Madrid and Dubrovnik, as it did for the first time last Summer.

FINLAND : Finnair will open a route to Bergen commencing 22-May-09. The company will fly to Bergen daily, except on Wednesdays and Sundays. Finnair's Vice President Route Strategy and Traffic Planning Petteri Kostermaa said, “The main reason for the opening of a new summer route to Bergen is high tourism demand from Asia, particularly from Japan, directed at Norway's renowned fjord area. There is also interest in the new route from America and the southern European countries.”

Flight SU 501 departs from Moscow (Sheremetievo-1) on Thursdays and Sundays at 10.35, arrives in Eilat (Ovda) at 14.00. Flight SU 502 departs from Eilat (Ovda) on Thursdays and Sundays at 15.00, arrives in Moscow (Sheremetievo-1) at 20.25 (local time).

VLM Airlines launched (14-Jan-09) flights between London City Airport and Eindhoven, with two services every weekday and a daily flight on Sundays. The route was previously flown by CityJet, VLM Airlines’s partner airline. VLM Airlines specialises in offering flights between the British capital and major cities in the Benelux countries, and in addition to Eindhoven, the airline offers flights from London to Amsterdam, Antwerp, Brussels, Luxembourg and Rotterdam.

IRELAND : Ryanair announced (14-Jan-09) that it will add new Boeing 737-800 aircraft at Alicante (up one to four) from June, Bristol (up two to four) from July and Edinburgh (up two to four) from March in an expansion which will bring four new routes to Alicante, 12 to Bristol and seven to Edinburgh.

Eastern Airways launched (12-Jan-09) services to Oslo with a direct air link from Aberdeen to the Norwegian capital. The inaugural flight leaves Aberdeen at 10.20am and arrives in Oslo at 1.05pm local time. From Oslo weekday flights depart at 1.45pm, landing in Aberdeen at 2.30pm local time.
