The deterioration in the economic environment noted at the end of the first quarter of 2009 continued during the subsequent three months. As a result, revenues for the Air France-KLM group for the First Quarter of Financial Year 2009-10 (April to June) recorded a decline of 20.5% to 5.19 billion euros.

Air France-KLM reported activity in the third quarter reflected the increasing severity of the economic downturn. The passenger business held up, underpinned by the balanced network and efficient hubs, with traffic up 3.4% and capacity by 2.9% (including VLM). The load factor gained 0.3 points to 79.5%.

The Aviation Global Deal (AGD) Group called (12-Feb-09) for CO2 emissions from international aviation to be included in a new global climate deal. The agreement will be negotiated by world leaders at the United Nations climate summit in Copenhagen in December.

Air France-KLM specified (21-Jan-09) that its operating result for the 3Q08 (Oct-08 to Dec-08) is likely to be negative to the tune of EUR200 million. For the full year to 31-Mar-09, the group is not in a position at this stage to make any pronouncement on the operating income forecasts circulating in the market.

An extraordinary and ordinary General meeting was held by shareholders of Alitalia - Compagnia Aerea Italiana S.p.A., with the following deliberations: (i) to modify the company statute and (ii) to increase the company capital to the nominative amount of Euro 167,088,836.00, by issuing a special category of shares, with a surcharge of Euro 0.93 per share, therefore for a total amount of about EUR322 million, to be offered in subscription to the industrial partner, Air France-KLM, in accordance with the agreements stipulated.

Air France-KLM stated (20-Jan-09) the deterioration in the economic environment during the third quarter has led to a slight weakening in passenger unit revenues and a strong decline in cargo revenue. Unit costs werennot able to benefit from lower oil prices because of the negative effect of the oil hedges.

In Dec-08, Air France-KLM’s traffic progressed by 1.3%, helped by the leisure segment. With capacity up by 0.9%, the load factor rose slightly to 78.9% (+0.3 points). Long haul traffic held up well, rising by 1.6%. The group carried 5.8 million passengers (+0.2%).

In comparison with the Winter 2007-08 season, Air France-KLM plans an increase of 1.7% (*) in capacity measured in available seat kilometers for the Winter 2008-09 season which begins on 26-Oct-08. This comprises a 1.5% reduction on short and medium-haul routes and a 2.6% increase on long-haul.
